In modern manufacturing processes, the clear identification and traceability of each component is becoming a key quality and efficiency factor. Whether in the context of traceability requirements, automated quality control or end-to-end production logistics:
Identification must be error-free, machine-readable and robust - directly on the workpiece carrier.

ZELL workpiece carrier systems make exactly that possible - with a comprehensive, modular identification concept:

🏷️ DMC, QR & laser marking - permanent & machine-readable

All ZELL workpiece carriers - especially our stainless steel versions - can be equipped with permanent laser markings. Typical applications:

DMC (Data Matrix Code) - for automated traceability

QR codes - can be quickly captured by mobile devices or scanners

Plain text engraving - for serial number, article designation or factory assignment

The markings are insensitive to cleaning processes, abrasion and temperature - ideal for use in reusable cycles.

Marking holders or insertion plates can also be integrated as an option, for example for temporary batch marking, color coding or flexible order data.

📡 RFID integration for automated material flow & JIT control

For digital production lines, ZELL also offers the option of equipping workpiece carriers with RFID tags - depending on the application:

  • Can be glued on for flexible solutions without interfering with the support system
  • Screwed or integrated for robust applications with read/write capability in the production environment

RFID enables:

  • Real-time localization in intralogistics
  • Link with MES / ERP systems
  • Automated quality inspections & inspection status management
  • Precise batch control for variant production

RFID technology providers include Turck, for example. They offer customers suitable RFID hardware (tags, readers, connection) to integrate into the production environment - whether for tracking, control or quality assurance. ZELL itself only supplies the workpiece carrier, e.g. made of stainless steel with an integrated RFID holder or engraving field.

Isolated position = unique identity

Thanks to their component separation, ZELL carriers not only guarantee physical protection, but also a logically unique assignment:
Each position in the carrier can be assigned to a clear ID, a test step or a digital status.

On request, the stainless steel carrier can be laser-engraved with a position matrix (e.g. "A1-D4") - ideal for:

  • Automated testing systems (measured value position = component ID)
  • Reliable handling with robotics
  • Fault-free return packaging in customer blister packs / final packaging

The carrier thus becomes the digital interface between the component, machine and logistics system.
